An Post Chain Reaction manager Kurt Bogaerts has revealed he turned down multiple offers to leave the team and join bigger teams in world cycling as a Directeur Sportif.

The Belgian is heading into his 12th season with the continental-ranked squad who held their launch last night in Calpe in Spain and admitted he could drive a car in the WorldTour tomorrow if he wanted.

“If I want to drive ProTour tomorrow I can do it,” he said.

“I have had three or four opportunities that I let pass by for big teams at a ProTour level but my problem is I am not only a sport director.

“I like enjoying what I put here, I made these banners,” he says proudly, pointing to the impressive stage he helped construct for last night’s glitzy launch in the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe.

“I set up this show, I’m riding with the sponsors today and tomorrow.

“I’m communicating with the sponsors, putting a plan together, looking for riders, looking for the right directeur sportif, the right coach…now I have interest in the communications thing as well.

“I don’t think I can fit easily into just being a sport director and that’s not easy but I like to work on the bikes.

"I build bikes sometimes for the team, I did massages in the past, I take guys behind the motorbike and that’s not because I work day and night, no I just love it.”

We’ll have a longer interview with Bogaerts in the coming days.
