Swiss bike brand BMC has recalled its Teammachine SLR01 Disc models dating from this year and 2018.
The company said there was a potential risk of the steerer tube cracking and snapping but stressed the number of cases it has identified is very small.
“The steerer tube can crack during regular use and
potentially snap,” the company said in a statement which urged bike owners stop
riding the bikes and get them checked at their local retailers.
“A broken steerer could result in the rider losing
control of their bike, crashing, and potentially suffering injuries,” it added.
“We identified a technical problem with a part of the
fork, which now means that retailers must carry out safety checks.
“Even though the number of such cases remains very low,
BMC has decided to recall all Teammachine SLR01 Disc bikes from the model years
2018 and 2019 to undergo safety checks.
“Owners of Teammachine SLR01 Disc models from model years 2018 and 2019 are requested not to use the bike from now on, and to bring the bike to a BMC retailer who will carry out the safety check.
“Your BMC
retailer can answer any further questions that you may have,” BMC advised,
adding bike owners could also email the company directly at
[email protected].
“BMC Switzerland AG sincerely apologises for the
inconvenience and would like to express their thanks for your support on the
matter.”
While the bike first went on the market in June 2017,
only bikes dated last year and this year are being recalled.
The Teammachine SLR01 Disc is the only model covered by the recall notice issued by BMC and only some of those models are being recalled, as this list outlines.
