The Government looks set to extend Level 5 restrictions until after the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, which would mean no races or sportives for that period.

Media reports have stated the Government and senior department officials agreed on Monday to extend Level 5 until April 5th, with the only major change being the phased re-opening of schools.

Closer to April 5th, which is Easter Monday, a
decision will be made about further extending the lock-down at Level 5 or
introducing some easing of restrictions.

Those decisions will be based on the number of new Covid-19 cases each day at that time and also the extent to which the vaccine roll-out has progressed.

The formal announcement to extend the lock-down until at least April 5th was expected to be made on Tuesday after a Cabinet meeting.

Following that meeting the next phase of the Living with Covid-19 will be set out, though it seems the return to schools, on a slow and phased basis, will be the only major change.

It was unclear if there would be any relaxation of the rule stipulating people need to remain within 5km of home when exercising, though that level of detail was expected to become clearer on Tuesday after the Cabinet meeting.

In Northern Ireland the lock-down was already extended in recent days until at least April 1st despite the vaccine programme there being much more advanced than in the Republic.

That decision in the North, combined with the news now
emerging in the Republic, means no racing or sportives would be possible until
just after Easter at the very earliest, though it may be further into April or
May.
