Two dopey thieves who made no effort to disguise themselves
while walking around with a stolen Movistar team bike have been caught.
The Murcia police put out a public appeal for the men
after tracking down CCTV footage of them wheeling the bike away.
After the images were circulated, members of the public quickly
came forward and supplied the names of the two men and the bike was found.
It had been stolen from one of the team’s riders after it
was left in a hotel corridor outside the unidentified rider’s room.
However, the thieves were recorded on CCTV walking away
with the €14,000 Canyon bike, making no effort to conceal their identity.
When images from the footage were circulated on social
media, the names of the men were supplied by people calling in and the police
did the rest.
Murcia police said
while the bike had been stolen due to “carelessness” of the team, which was in
Murcia for the Spanish championships.
The police added the cyclist who owned it had suffered a “great
fright” and they were glad to bring about “a happy ending”.
