More than 30 riders have applied for places on Cycling Ireland’s warm weather training camp in Spain.
The
applications are still being reviewed and only when that process has been
completed will the successful candidates be contacted by the federation’s road
commission.
Cycling Ireland's road commission has received a
high level of interest from riders who wish to be considered for places on the
upcoming pre-season training camp,” the commission said in a statement, adding
applications were now closed.
“All riders who expressed an interest in attending have now been contacted directly.
"A full list of successful applicants will be announced once all applications have been assessed.”
While the Cycling Ireland road commission will pay for the majority of the
cost of the camp, a rider contribution will be required.
The contributions from the riders will cover a portion of the camp –
including travel, accommodation, food and vehicle – though the road commission
will cover the majority of the cost.
Last month the road commission explained the camp was open to all domestic-based U23 male riders 18 years or older and all female riders 18 years or older.
“The camp is designed to give riders a chance to prepare for the 2020 road season and also develop road racing specific skills,” the commission told stickybottle in a statement at the time.
“The road commissions goals are to accelerate the development of each rider
by allowing them to build fitness, gain experience and develop skills necessary
for international level racing in 2020.”
