The second round of the Planet-X sponsored Navan Road Club cyclocross league takes place this Sunday, November 6th, in Blackwater Park, Navan.

The three-round series attracted a large field for the opening contest at the beginning of last month and it’s hoped for a similar - if not bigger - turnout this weekend.

Sign-on for all races is open from 10am, though you can also register in advance.

There are four races down for decision on the day; an U14 event starting at 11am, a ‘B’ race half an hour later at 11.30am, a women’s race five minutes later at 11.35am and finally, the main event at 12.30pm.

The third and final round of the series takes place on Sunday November 4th with all the details for that on the Navan Road Club’s website here.

The inaugural event was a huge success with over 90 riders starting the ‘B’ race and 30 more competing for the main event.

The latter was won by David Conroy (Scott-Eurocycles) who was in France last weekend competing for Ireland in the European Championships.

He beat Glenn Kinning of Kinning Cycles while Niall Davis of Biking.ie was around a minute further back.

The six-lap support race on that occasion featured all riders from U14 upwards, along with women, and honours on the day went to Will Ryan of O’Leary’s Stone Kanturk CC.

However, this time that race will be broken into a number of events; with separate U14 race and separate starts for Men's B and Women's races.

Michael Mills, secretary of the promoting club said: “It should be a massive event again. The appetite for cyclocross here is huge and that’s reflected in the volume of people signing on.

“Planet X have kindly sponsored the total prize-fund and they’ve been brilliant.

“They’ve just offered the total prize fund for the event, which is greatly appreciated so the winners will get a trophy and a voucher for Planet X.

“The course is a new one and in fact, it’s a completely updated one which will make for quite a spectacle.”
