Sam Bennett drew level with Peter Sagan in the Tour de France points classification at one of the intermediate sprints today, hitting 70km per hour as he went for the points during stage 4.
While a breakaway was up the road at the time, and the top points were shared by those six riders, there was a sprint in the bunch for what remained of the points.
Sagan holds the green jersey and he went for the sprint, though had to settle for the minor placings in the sprint from the group while Bennett was first across the line.
That meant Bennett was seventh over that intermediate sprint point line as the breakaway took the first six places. Sagan was was only 12th over the line.
The result secured 9 points for Bennett and four for Sagan. And as Sagan was 5 points ahead of Bennett this morning, the former team mates are both level now on 83 points.
However, keeps the jersey by virtue of his higher general classification position when compared to Bennett, who was led out by a team mate for today's intermediate sprint.
It's unclear if Bennett was simply going for the points as he had a chance of taking the green jersey today or if he has now decided to target that contest; one that he may well win if he targeted it but which he may pay for in his efforts to win stages.
If Sam Bennett was to take that jersey, even for a day or two, it would be the first time an Irish cyclist had it since the days of Sean Kelly. The former world number 1 and Vuelta winner owned the green jersey, as Sagan has done for years, in his prime. Kelly won that competition four times in his career.
