Ben Walsh to ride Tour de Yorkshire for Vitus Pro Cycling

 

Irish teenager Ben Walsh has received a significant vote of confidence from his team, which has picked him for the Tour de Yorkshire.

The 18-year-old is only a matter of months out of the junior ranks. And he is now plying his trade Vitus Pro Cycling.

The UK Continental-level team was told two months ago it has secured an invited to the Tour de Yorkshire.

And this evening when Vitus Pro Cycling named its line-up for the race, Ben Walsh was one of the seven names on that team sheet.

It means having been riding domestic junior as recently as last September, he’ll now line out against some of the biggest team’s in the sport.

When Walsh rolls out of the town of Beverly tomorrow he will be in a peloton alongside riders from Team Sky, Movistar, BMC Racing, Dimension Data and Astana, to name but a few.

Over the four stages, the riders will compete for up to 189.5km per day. But it’s a challenge that Walsh’s squad, a new team this year, feels he is up to.

The emphasis for Ben Walsh will be on looking and learning. And while the next four days will be challenging for him, it’s a golden opportunity for the teenager.

There are a number of other Irish riders also in the race. Aqua Blue Sport is riding; Eddie Dunbar one of men in its line-up.

Sean McKenna is competing in the colours of Holdsworth Pro Cycling. And Robert Jon McCarthy is in the JLT-Condor line-up.
