Caroline Ryan will be on the hunt for UCI points at tomorrow’s Celtic Chrono
The UCI-registered Celtic Chrono time trial (TT) in Belfast has attracted women from all over the world, with a pretty incredible 16 nationalities represented in the field.
The event starts and finishes in the Stormont Estate with the riders facing a draggy 22 mile test tomorrow morning, Sunday.
The race starts at 9am at Stormont, with the route taking the field to Newtownards, Bangor, Holywood and Tillysburn before racing back Stormont for the finish.
With valuable world ranking points on offer towards Olympic qualification, Ireland’s World Championship track bronze medalist Caroline Ryan and top international road rider Siobhan Horgan will be looking to impress.
However, also on the home front Wendy Houvenhagel will be looking for victory as well.

Rebecca Garland is the assistant event manager for the BGN Sports Management run race and says she believes the race will help put Belfast on the map as a host city for international cycling.

“Some of the riders arrived during the week and they’ve been out on the course and love it,” she told stickybottle.
“It’s great to have a UCI event here and with the points on offer it’s drawn riders from 16 countries. So it’s a truly international event and we’re looking forward to lots and lots of people coming out to have a look at it.”
Garland, whose partner is the in-form Irish international Peter Hawkins (IG Sigma Sport), said she was very hopeful the race would lead to more UCI events in the North.
The event will include a leisure cycle for all the family and to help raise funds for the designated charities, Action Cancer, NSPCC, Diabetes UK and Aware Defeat Depression.
