Hot on the heels of the Northern Ireland Executive relaxing Covid-19 rules sufficiently to allow the return of sporting events in the North, Banbridge Cycling Club has confirmed it is hosting open races this weekend.
The club, which promotes a number of events each season, will host the Travers Engineering Annaclone GP this Saturday.
The event is usually held at the very start of the domestic season but had to be delayed this year when racing was suspended because of the pandemic.
However, the host club has wasted
no time in confirming the races will be held on Saturday, just a day after the
new relaxation of Covid-19 rules kicks in.
Banbridge CC said it was “delighted”
to be able to confirm the Annaclone GP would take place this Saturday.
“Two races will be hosted
as part of the event, but with a slightly different format to previous years to
ensure we all stay well within the
published guidelines,” it said.
“Race 1 will commence at 11am, covering four
laps of the traditional Annaclone circuit for a 50km contest. This race will be open to A4 men and A3-A4 women.
“Race 2
will commence at 1:30pm, covering six
laps for a 76km race, and will be open
to all A1, A2 and A3 riders.
“All
entries will be strictly pre-entry only, with no exceptions.
Unfortunately due to the current restrictions we can only accept entries from
riders who are Northern Ireland residents.”
Entry to the
races will be open tomorrow on the Cycling Ireland online booking system and will
close on Friday. The club added further details would be published in the next
24 to 48 hours.
