Banbridge Cycling Club will this Saturday promot the Travers Engineering Annaclone GP but it has now decided to change the format of the racing.
While a separate A4 event had been initially planned, that has now not proven possible. As a result, the A3s are taken out of what was initially a planned A1-A2-A3 race and they will instead ride a joint A3-A4 event.
The change comes about as the number of A4 entries has been much lower than expected. And it is felt holding two events - one for A1-A2s and one for A3-A4s - is a better fit that should ensure two competitive events.
Banbridge CC said it was making the changes "in response to the profile of entries". "The feature race, competing for the Eddie Sands Memorial Cup, will accommodate A1 and A2 rider categories," it said in a statement.
"As per previous years a sporting handicap will still be applied. This race will cover 6 laps of the rolling Co Down circuit for a total race distance of approx. 50miles/80km. Prizes will be available for the top six riders overall, including the top three A2 riders.
"In a change to the previous editions the support race will accommodate A3 and A4 rider categories. A handicap will also be applied in this race which will cover four laps of the same course giving a total distance of approximately 32miles/ 51km.
"The overall victor will be awarded the Travers Cup, with prizes available for the top 6 riders overall, including the top 3 A4 riders and first unplaced woman.
"The usual circuit starting from the Hawthorn Inn will be used, taking in Richies Bridge before a sharp left through Annaclone Village, Mays Corner and Katesbridge before returning to the Hawthorn Inn via the Ardbrin Rd. A detailed course profile can be found here."
Pre-entry remains open until 6pm this Thursday, 29th Feb, via Eventmaster.
