Bahrain-Merida has been relaunched as Bahrain-McLaren and
has unveiled its new kit today at the McLaren headquarters in Woking, England.
While the team retains its backing from the Kingdom of
Bahrain, there is a very British feel to the WorldTour outfit, with Brits now
in most of the key positions.
Initially the kit reminded us of the Raleigh pro team in
the UK of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
But we also had a nagging feeling it reminded us of
something more recent. And then one of our readers sent us a link to a story we’d
carried last week on Irish cyclist Jennifer Neenan.
She has signed up with the Spanish Continental team VB Natural Greatness and stickybottle featured her team’s 2020 kit in the piece we did on her.
As you can see from the image above, the VB Natural
Greatness kit and that of Bahrain-McLaren are uncannily alike.
Bahrain-McLaren’s new kit is produced by Le Col; the
British cycling apparel company founded by former pro cyclist Yanto Barker.
Rod Ellingworth, another former British pro cyclist and
formerly of Team Sky, is the new manager.
Mark Cavendish joins the team for 2020 while another former British champion Roger Hammond is performance director. Duncan Bradley, also British, of McLaren is technical director.
