Having been hit by a series of race cancellations this year in dispute over fixture dates, racing in Connacht has been dealt a further blow.
The Seven Springs GP scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday 19th, is off because of adverse weather conditions.
However, the promoting club Seven Springs has said the event will take place at a future date. And when that is set the club will release an update.
It means while the race being pulled just 24 hours before it was due to start is a blow, at least it is not lost from the calendar this year.
The race organisers released a brief statement saying the adverse weather conditions in recent days had left significant quantities of water on the course.
And because of that, the course was deemed unsafe to race on.
“Due the adverse weather over the last few days and in the interest of rider safety, this year’s GP has been postponed to a future date,” the statement said.
“The race route was inspected this morning and the decision was made due to a large volume of water on the circuit.
“We left it as late as we could as we did not want to have to make a very tough decision, but rider safety is number 1 priority.
“We will be rescheduling next week and will update once we have a new date.”
The fixture was to have a combined race for A1-A2-A3 riders and another for A4s and women.
Youth racing for U12, U14 and U16 was also planned and it is understood all of those events will go ahead on the new date.
