Having won the elite road race crown four times in the past, Matt Brammeier had to settle for 2nd place yesterday when Nicolas Roche broke clear of the breakaway on the final climb and took a solo win.
Brammeier, of WorldTour team Dimension Data, said after the race while Roche rode a perfect race and was the strongest on the day, he felt he would have been able to follow him on the climb had he stuck closer to him.
In a great interview with Shane Stokes, below, Brammeier also said the World Championships were a goal for later in the year, adding while he would soon be out of contract with Dimension Data he was hopeful of staying there next year.
The team's charity ethos was something he said motivated him and generally speaking he said he was in a great place at the moment following his awful crash at the Tour of Utah last year.
