Audio: Armstrong hangs up on air after excruciating Irish radio interview

Newstalk's Ger Gilroy did his best to tut tut at a cranky Lance Armstrong while at the same time giving him a half hour of air time in what as an excruciating interview.

Last evening Newstalk interviewed Lance Armstrong about, well, doping and his upcoming trip to Dublin for the sports and tech conference OneZero.

The Texan is the star turn at the event and to drum up business and generally publicise the conference, Off The Ball's Ger Gilroy carried out a lengthy interview with the now disgraced former pro rider.

Gilroy sounded like he didn't want to be there, but gave Armstrong a half hour of air time; trying to have his cake and eat it.

Newstalk also carried images online ostensibly advertising the fact it was to interview Armstrong but which also featured the branding of the event he is appearing at next Friday week in Dublin.

Armstrong was very unimpressed with a line of questioning that seemed narrow and repetitive and brought out the crankiness in the American throughout.

On a number of occasions he repeated his answers, laughed at Gilroy's questions and arrogantly asked the host if he was "a complete rookie".

It was hard to listen to and ended with Armstrong rudely hanging up without saying goodbye at the end; ouch!
