As race crashes go, this is pretty nuts; we give you Gavin Mannion

From Irish stock, Gavin Mannion is riding on a trial basis with Garmin-Sharp and pulled off this spectacular crash at the Tour of Utah.

Gavin Mannion, son of Irish former racing cyclist Tommy Mannion from Tuam, was riding his first race as a stagiaire with the Garmin Sharp team at the Tour of Utah last week.

The 23-year-old came to an abrupt halt midway through last Friday’s stage however when he hit a fallen 'snow' pole at the side of the road while riding in a lineout.

As you can see from the footage below, the incident - already hailed as 'the crash of the year' by internet onlookers - was quite spectacular.

Although he was a bit shook up, thankfully Mannion was back on his bike almost immediately.
