Aqua Blue Sport statement on UCI licence delay

 

Irish cycling team Aqua Blue Sport said it was confident its application to remain a pro team in 2018 will be concluded in come days.

The team said the UCI had asked it to submit more paperwork relating to its application for ProContinental status.

Today the UCI published a list of all WorldTour and ProContinental teams whose applications have been processed and confirmed for next year.

Aqua Blue Sport was not listed in the ProContinental section.

Instead, the UCI said of the team’s application: “Team Aqua Blue Sport (ABS – IRL) is still under review by the Licence Commission. The UCI will make an announcement in due course.”

The team has this evening released a statement to stickybottle, carried in full here:

“Aqua Blue Sport note the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) communiqué dated 11/12/2017 and concerning the registration of UCI WorldTeams (sic) and UCI Professional Continental Teams for the 2018 season.

“As announced, the 2018 registration application by Aqua Blue Sport remains under review by the UCI Licence Commission and a further update will be issued in due course.

“Aqua Blue Sport continue to work closely with the Licence Commission to ensure all criteria for attribution are fulfilled according to UCI Regulations.

“At the request of the UCI, Aqua Blue Sport will be submitting additional documentation to support the team’s application for registration and are confident of a resolution in the coming days.

“The team anticipates the timely conclusion of this process and until that conclusion is reached, will be making no further comment.

“In the meantime, our management, staff and riders continue to focus on preparations for the 2018 season and look forward to clarifying this matter promptly.”
