Aqua Blue Sport is eyeing one final push for another stage win at La Vuelta when the race finishes on Sunday.
With one victory already in the bag, the man who won Wednesday’s stage so convincingly Stefan Denifl insists they will try for more.
On yesterday’s stage 18 – 169km from Suances to Santo Toribio de Liébana - Sander Armee from Lotto Soudal won from a large early breakaway.
All of the Aqua Blue Sport team, including Ireland’s Conor Dunne, finished in the grupetto some 24:47 down.
Nicolas Roche (BMC Racing) would finish in 41st at 11.39 and he stays 17th overall.
Denifl said yesterday’s stage was a pleasure having been victorious the previous day. But he believes the team can threaten again on the final stage in Madrid with Adam Blythe.
“We won a stage yesterday and that is what matters. We want to go to Madrid with eight guys and we will try to have a crack with Adam.”
The Austrian added while yesterday’s stage was “super hard” he knew it would be.
“It was amazing to ride a Grand Tour stage and know that I won a Grand Tour stage the day before. That is a pretty awesome feeling,” he said.
“It wasn’t a rolling day but I could hang in there and we could with Lasse and Aaron covering the breaks. The break went after 60 kilometres.
“It was up and down all day and it was a lot like a Pays Basque stage. The Grupetto was 120 guys so we were in there.”
