Aqua Blue Sport adds pink for breast cancer awareness
Irish pro cycling team Aqua Blue Sport has just added a lot of pink to its look, all in aid of breast cancer awareness.
The team said the condition had in some way affected the family of ever single member of its squad.
So in order to mark October as International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is riding with a pink ribbon on its jersey.
And it has added a number of other pink items to its look including helmets, socks and bar tape.
Team owner Rick Delaney has a very particular reason for choosing this cause to get involved in.
Lisa Delaney, Rick’s wife and a director of the team, is a cancer survivor.
And Rick Delaney said raising awareness around breast cancer was very important for his family.
"This cause is very close to my family’s heart,” he said. “Every family has been touched by cancer – we are no different.
“Lisa has won her battle against breast cancer. But other people, from all corners of the world, have not been so lucky.
“We hope that, through our simple gesture, and with the help of our sponsors, that we can again bring the fight against breast cancer into the public consciousness.
“If this helps one person get an early diagnosis then that is a success."
Aqua Blue Sport has today launched a month-long effort to promote awareness, education and self checks around breast cancer.
It will wear specially designed pink helmets from Catlike and will also use pink bar tape from fi’zi:k and wear pink socks from Rapha.
The team is also taking donations on its website for the cause.
