Aqua Blue Sport Mark Christian Vuelta hip injury
Aqua Blue Sport rider Mark Christian has shown off a bulging hip injury after his crash on Vuelta stage 4.
The Isle of Man rider, and Grand Tour debutant, came down hard with about 12km to go today.
For a couple of moments it looked like he wasn't getting up. But he composed himself; getting back to his feet and remounting to finish.
He'd finish second from last, some 9:05 after the main peloton. But the main thing is that he made it.
And he'll be back on the start line for stage 5, with his swollen hip hopefully having settled down.
The team said his wheel fell off a lip of tarmac at the side of the road causing him to crash.
“It should be all right for the rest of the race," he said, thanking those who had contacted him wishing him well.
"I just lost a bit of skin. It’s the standard scrapes. I think I should be good to go tomorrow."
The former An Post-Chainreaction man enjoyed a decent showing on stage 2.
Team Sky split the field before QuickStep did the main damage near the finish. Mark Christian would make the first group initially, underlining some good condition.
Now aged 26 years, he'll be looking to learn all he can during this race. He's already enjoyed some good form this year, finishing 7th overall at the Tour de Yorkshire.
All ok after hitting the deck on the stage today, just a little bit of a swollen hip to ice down! pic.twitter.com/QzvDZCZ1R2
