You cycled in floods deeper than Sean Kelly in these photos?

Sean Kelly and his training group in Carrick-on-Suir were not going to be stopped by the floods that have devastated much of the area, as these shots show.

The other day we brought you a piece about Sean Kelly going the extra mile to prove his brand of ONDA clothing is up to anything the Irish winter can throw at it.

On that occasion while out for a spin with business partner Barry Meehan, they passed rough seas at Bonmahon Village in Co Waterford.

The winds and sea waters had deposited foam all along the beach and Kelly couldn’t resist jumping in to test just how durable his kit was.

This morning, Sunday, when the Kelly-led training group came across flood waters that very nearly reached the height of their crossbars, they rode through it, as these photos reveal.

In his account of the spin on The Cycling Blog, Meehan explained that on leaving Carrick-on-Suir and heading for Clonmel, many of the 40-strong group peeled off for higher ground to avoid the worst of the floods.

But Kelly insisted they should stick to the plan of doing a loop of Ballymac.

And with the group down to just six when the encountered these biblical waters on the Dungarvan road, they decided to plough through.

Top marks to Meehan who took the photos for The Cycling Blog, which he owns, and who has allowed us publish them here.

After wading through the waters, the lads then started attacking each other, as the shots below reveal!
