Team iTap rider David Brody has said his team only have 29 more wins to go to achieve their season target after getting off to a winning start in Dundalk on Sunday.

The 20-year old Castlebar man was a surprise winner of the feature event in Leinster where he won a three-up sprint from Chris Reilly (ASEA Wheelworx) and Colm Quinn (Newry Wheelers).

Brody admitted it was one of his finest wins, given the calibre of rider he beat, but he said he felt confident when he had the aforementioned duo isolated in the final after escaping a break of around 12 riders.

“It's one of my finest wins considering the winners on the last two years started with me in the A1 group,” he said in reference to Darragh Zaidan (Arcane Cycling Team) and Bryan McCrystal (ASEA Wheelworx).

“Any one of my team could have won today with the form we have.

“The three of us left the A1 scratch group and it was only Chris Reilly that could come with us.

“Others tried but didn’t make it. It happened to be me that ended up in the final move and I knew it would be a drag race to the finish and that suited me.”

Brody is a full-time rider and will race a full programme of races this year.

With the aim of securing a professional contract of some description next year, he knows he’s got to go ‘all-in’ for 2016.

“It's the only way to do it if you want to get to the top,” he reckoned.

“Like any committed full-time bike rider, it has to be all about the bike and sacrifices need to be made.

“It's my job to race so depending on different times of the year one has to sacrifice different things.

“But every day I'm out riding at least I'm not listening to phones ringing and looking at four walls from behind a desk in an office job.

“The whole team got a kick from today and I lifted that duck I have; plenty of placings and a jersey in Ballinrobe Two Day but no win.

“So I have it sorted now and we have only 29 wins left now to hit our team target for the year.”
