André Greipel joins Ireland’s Dan Martin at Israel Cycling Academy

André Greipel joins Dan Martin at Israel Cycling Academy in 2020 as the squad moves up to WorldTour level

German sprint legend André Greipel has signed for Israel Cycling Academy, joining Dan Martin in the line-up as it moves up to WorldTour level in 2020.

While former Irish champion Conor Dunne rode for the team
this year it is unclear where he will race next season.

Israel Cycling Academy today announced the signing of Greipel,
who endured a nightmare season with just one victory this year.

Now aged 37 years, Greipel rode for Arkéa-Samsic this year but terminated his contract with the team last month.

Dan Martin also had a poor season this year but he has more time on his side than his new German team mate

It was speculated he may retire and he was also linked
with a move to Cofidis. However, he has now committed his future to Israel
Cycling Academy, joining the team on a one-year deal.

The German and Ireland’s Dan Martin are the two biggest
names in the team. It seems certain both would ride the Tour de France to
target stage wins.

Greipel has 157 pro victories under his belt, including
22 Grand Tour stage wins. Despite a poor year in 2019 and is age, he says he is
ready to get results.

"I am looking forward for the challenge to perform
on my highest level again together with team ICA, a project for the future with
lots of motivated and talented riders,” he said.

“I followed the team and saw its fast evolution in the
last few years, and I wanted to be part of that, especially with the chance to
go back and race in the World Tour.”
