An Post young gun crashes hard and out of Etoile de Bessèges

He's in bits after going right over the handlebars at high speed at Etoile de Bessèges but hopefully he'll be back as soon as possible.

The An Post-Chainreaction team endured a tough day on stage 2 of Etoile de Bessèges today, but for one of them the race is over.

New Canadian rider Sean Mackinnon was thrown straight over the handlebars, and by the looks of things onto his face, when debris became jammed in his front wheel.

His race - and trajectory - was unfortunately taken out of his hands and he would abandon the stage, making a beeline for the nearest hospital for treatment.

The team shared these photos on its Twitter account showing a very bloodied Mackinnon and suggesting his helmet had saved his life.

Mackinnon said there was nothing he could do when the debris was kicked into his front wheel.

Indeed, the branch segment that most likely did the damage was still jammed between the fork and wheel when the team took a photo of it, below.
