Scott Law (now An Post-Sean Kelly) winning the Australian National Scratch Title last year
The New Year may be less than a week old, but the An Post-Sean Kelly team has already taken its first win with new signing Scott Law taking victory in the Australian U23 criterium championships early this morning.
The 20-year-old took the bunch sprint that decided the coveted title in the opening event of the Australian national criterium championships festival in the city of Ballarat near Melbourne in Victoria.
The sprint specialist was part of the main group that on the final corner closed down a last gasp attack from fastman Aaron Donnelly.
As he was swept up in the charge to the line, Law emerged fastest of those going for the win in the uphill finish. He took the title from Jay McCarthy of the Australian national team, with last year’s winner Ben Grenda taking the bronze.
It was a great win for the young Australian, who saw off some top quality competition to take victory after 30 laps of a very tight 1.1km circuit.
Management at An Post-Sean Kelly will no doubt be delighted with that win. It suggests Law is full of form and confidence ahead of his departure for Europe to join his new team for the 2012 road season based in Belgium.
Law, from Blacktown, New South Wales, is a former stage winner in the Tour of Geelong and has represented Australia from the age of seventeen. He is a product of Australia’s renowned national track programme.

He has won no fewer than 20 track, TT and road race Australian and Oceanic titles since his mid teens.
He is the reigning omnium and scratch race Australian champion at elite level.
He was Junior Champion of Champions at the Australian track championships four years ago and has represented Australia in the World Championships and Oceanic Championships at junior level.
We’ll hopefully get some more detail for you later, including a couple of photographs of Law’s win today.
