A member of the mighty Team Sky squad and stalwart of the Irish team at World Championships, above, and Olympics; Nicolas Roche holds his annual sportive this Saturday, August 8th.
With the boom in cycling in Ireland in recent years and more and more of our professional riders doing well on the international stage, our bigger names have become involved more frequently in leisure events.
This Saturday, August 8th, Nicolas Roche is in town for his annual Meath Summer Cycle.
The event, based from Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, has become very popular since it was established just a few years ago, with the ever-popular Roche always pulling a great crowd.

There's not much time for chat in the pro peloton, but on Saturday in Dunshaughlin the Nicolas Roche Meath Summer Classic will be a lot more social. And with 12km, 60km and 100kn rides on offer, there really is something for everybody.
While the three cycles on offer – 12km, 60km and 100km in length – offer something for everybody, there’s a social emphasis to Roche’s event each year.
He will be on hand to meet people and sign autographs and have photos taken. And with one of the events on offer such a short family cycle, this is definitely one for the kids.
Even the adults who haven’t been on a bike for a while should survive the short route so dust your mount down and get out there!
The base for all three events is Dunshaughlin Community Centre, with sign-on opening from 7am.
- Longest, 100km ride, starts at 9am and is €30, you can sign up by following this link.
- Medium, 60km event, starts at 10.30am and is €30, you can sign up by following this link.
- Family Cycle 12km, starts at 12 noon. It’s €10 per person or €20 for a group of up to four riders. You can sign up by following this link.

There's a good work-out to be had on the longer spins, but the shorter ride can be tackled by anybody on any bike.
