Nicolas Roche’s younger brother Alexis has been snapped up by well-known French amateur team VC La Pomme-Marseille for the 2017 season.
The talented junior has spent this season and last with the Phil Finnegan-led NRPT-Magnet.ie team and taken some strong results.
He is the only Irish rider in the French team for 2017 though it’s believed up to six other riders from different countries have been offered places.
The team has a long and storied history of helping to nurture the talent of Irish riders.
Alexis’ own brother Nicolas rode with the team in the early noughties.
Tim Cassidy, Philip Deignan, Dan Martin, Sam Bennett, Páidí O’Brien and Mark Scanlon all also spent time with the outfit in the early stages of their careers.
This year Alexis took two top 10 placings in one-day races and a seventh overall in the Tour Junior Causses-Aigoual-Cévennes.
He raced the Junior Tour of Wales recently as well as the Scott Bicycles Junior Tour of Ireland where he narrowly missed out on a stage win on the final day.
