Capitalising on the recent surge in popularity of cycling in Ireland, German supermarket chain Aldi is releasing its own brand of folding bike on Thursday, August 6th.
The new rothar will be on sale in all
142 of their stores nationwide for €349.99, offering a new option to those
changing their commuting habits because of Covid19.
It is also a much cheaper option than other folding bikes; Brompton’s cheapest model costing €1,200 and the CHPT3 folding bikes by form pro David Millar starting at €2,000.
Halfords also does a range of folding bikes; from about €250 to €1,500. Local bike shops also stock similarly priced folding bikes.
The Aldi bike folds into a more compact form. This will allow the bike to be stored and moved easily without taking up much space.
This feature makes the bike ideal for
commuting or social riding as it can be packed into the boot of a car or
carried onto public transport without much inconvenience.
With holidays being restricted to
Ireland for most this year, the folding bike could be used by Irish people
staying at home to explore and get around while on staycation.
The €349.99 bike comes in black or grey
matt, with folding pedals and alloys, pedal reflectors, mudguard and tyres.
Other features include a bell, pump,
kickstand and carrying bag. As bike sales have skyrocketed since lockdown, it
is likely this will be another fast seller.
