Airport CCTV picks up suspect for murder of gravel rider Wilson | Video

Kaitlin Armstrong, the woman suspected of the murder of top US gravel rider Mo Wilson, at Austin airport three days after the murder and just a day after she was released by the police on an unrelated warrant

Kaitlin Armstrong, the woman suspected of the murder of top US gravel rider Mo Wilson, has been spotted on CCTV at Austin Airport catching a flight to New York three days after the killing.

Armstrong is a yoga teacher and the partner of Red Bull-sponsored pro gravel rider Colin Strickland. A warrant has been issued for her arrest as the police in Austin suspect she shot dead Mo Wilson on May 11th.

It is suspected she carried out the murder because Wilson had been romantically involved with Strickland late last year and Armstrong was said to be incensed when she found out about the relationship.

It appears Strickland and Armstrong were on a break in their relationship last autumn when Strickland was briefly romantically involved with Wilson. Strickland said after he got back together with Armstrong he did not continue his other romance with Wilson.

On Tuesday, May 10th, Wilson flew from San Francisco to Austin ahead of a race in the region the following Saturday. Wilson met Strickland for a swim in a local pool on Wednesday, May 11th. Strickland dropped her off that evening at the apartment she was staying in and it is now alleged Armstrong called to the property later that night and shot Wilson dead.

Police put Armstrong under surveillance after the murder and arrested her on an unrelated warrant on May 13th, two days after the murder that has shocked US cycling.

However, when it emerged the warrant was not valid, Armstrong was told she was free to go. The video recorded by CCTV at Austin Airport suggests she flew out around midday the next day, May 14th, to New York LaGuardia airport via Houston.

Strickland (35), a Red Bull-sponsored pro gravel rider and former top criterium and cyclocross racer, has been interviewed by the police and has been helping them with their inquiries. His status in the case is purely as a witness.

He has told the police after going for a swim with Wilson he dropped her off at the apartment she was staying in at about 8.30pm and then drove to his home nearby, arriving at about 8.45pm. He has also told the police that his partner, Armstrong, was not at home when he arrived but she returned to the property at about 9.20pm in her black Jeep.

Police were checking reports that a vehicle fitting that description was seen on the street outside the apartment block where Wilson was murdered on the night of the killing. US marshals are still searching for Armstrong and have not yet found her Jeep.
