One of the best young Irish riders of recent seasons, Adam Ward will be taking a step up next season having signed for a Spanish team.

The 19-year-old will spend his second season at U23 level in Girona, which has become a Mecca for cyclists down the years.

He has joined Antiga Casa Bellsolà, a relatively new squad for U23 riders that is preparing for its third season in the European peloton.

It rides races mainly in Spain and with Ward having already raced the kermesse scene in Belgium in the latter part of recent seasons, and competed for Ireland abroad, he is no stranger to international racing.

Ward rode for Powerhouse Sport as a junior, dominating frequently on the home scene and winning the national road race title.

This year he stepped up to U23 level and won a number of elite races at home while riding for Bio-DHL-FRS.

He was also selected to ride for the Irish team at Kerry Group Rás Mumhan during the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

He also won the East Tyrone GP back in April as well as claiming victory in the Tour of the Mournes in May and also winning the Madigan GP in August.

Having ridden the European Championships for Ireland as a junior as well as Gent-Wevelgem twice, Ward's move to Spain should be ideal for developing further and gaining national selection at U23 level.
