A dog has just eaten the prize money for an Irish bike race (honestly)

Oh dear: This dog has gotten busy chewing up the prize money intended for today's Groucho's GP......

We've been around for a few years now and we thought we'd seen it all when it came to Irish cycling, but a dog eating the prize money intended for a road race is a new one for us.

It might sound like an excuse usually trotted out by kids who haven't got their homework done but Irish club Shelbourne Orchard CC has provided photographic evidence as proof of the crime, which was committed overnight.

The dog in question - owned by one of the club's event organisers - got their teeth into a bag containing the prize money intended for today's Groucho's GP in the village of Richhill, Co Armagh, the 'Orchard County'.

As the photographic evidence above reveals, many of the notes have been shredded beyond repair, leaving the unlucky owner with some explaining to do when they get to the race venue today.

The cash had been divided up and placed into envelopes for distribution to the prize winners today. However, the offending pooch made short work of the envelopes; chewing them and many of the notes to tiny pieces.

"When you waken up the morning of Groucho’s GP and your dog has eaten all the prize money. You will all be racing for doggy biscuits today folks, it’s all we’ve left," the club said in a Facebook post with a photo of the dog and the shredded cash.
