Specialized has suffered a major fire at its UK headquarters which required 80 firefighters and 12 fire tenders, as well as support vehicles and crew, to bring it under control.
London Fire Brigade urged local residents to keep their windows closed such was the volume of smoke in Chessington, London, where the Specialized premises was gutted by the blaze.
The alarm was raised just about 6.30pm yesterday and took four hours to bring under control.
"Twelve fire engines and around eighty firefighters tackled a fire at Barwell Business Park on Leatherhead Road in Chessington," London Fire Brigade said.
"A warehouse unit was destroyed by the blaze. Fire crews deployed a drone to provide an aerial view of the blaze and used aerial ladder appliances as they worked to bring the blaze under control. There were no reports of any injuries."
Station commander Neil Guyett added: “Fire crews arrived to find a well-developed fire and worked hard to bring it under control in what was a protracted incident. There was thick smoke issuing across the business park."
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Unit and the London Metropolitan Police Service..
