8 positive Covid-19 cases on Giro d’Italia, four recorded in one team

There have been eight positive Covid-19 cases on the Giro after tests were carried out on the rest day

A total of eight people on the Giro – two riders and six staff members – have tested positive for Covid-19 during yesterday’s rest day testing on the race.

A total of 571 tests were carried out and of the eight
positives, half are within Mitchelton Scott. The team’s star rider on the race,
Simon Yates, had already been pulled out of the race after feeling unwell and
testing positive for Covid-19.

It is unclear how and where Yates caught the virus and now, perhaps unsurprisingly, there have been four more positive test results within the team, all of them staff members.

As well as the four staff members from Mitchelton –

More to come.
