6 things cyclists could do while Hurricane Ophelia batters Ireland

6 things cyclists could do during Hurricane Ophelia

1 Go for that Strava KOM you always wanted

Don't lie, you know you want to. Just think of that epic tailwind and put the head down and go for it.

It's a 50-year storm, you're simply not going to get another chance like this....

2 Do a 'Bodhi in Point Break' riding the 50-year wave at the very end

Head to the most exposed place you can find and do a really gnarly* ride off road like your life depended on it.

Or take to your road bike and do a coastal ride in the precise locations everyone has been told to stay away from.

You only live once....

* For the benefit of road riders, gnarly is an informal US expression meaning difficult, dangerous, or challenging (that's what Wikipedia says anyway)

4 Crack out some of the old cycling videos and get stuck in

Let the kids go out and play with the traffic and get stuck into a few golden oldies like this one...

5 Follow Teresa Mannion and ride past her live TV broadcast

Teresa Mannion has practically become a Hollywood A-lister since her epic live broadcast from Salthill during Storm Desmond two years ago. Why not take a leaf out of her book?

Keep an eye on her on RTE early in the day tomorrow and if she's anywhere near where you live, then you're away in a hack.

They'll definitely have her live on the 6pm news later; you can bet the farm on it.

So go to where she is and hang around; all kitted up and with the bike ready to go.

And if you just happen to be riding passed in the background when she's on live TV you'll be in the Big Brother house before you know it.
