Many Irish cycling clubs who applied for grants under the Government's 'sports capital and equipment programme' have been successful in securing funding, with a total of 25 clubs receiving money under the scheme.

Cycling Ireland has also secured a total of €177,00 - for new track and paracycling bikes as well as to purchase other technical equipment.

Meanwhile, the sums of money awarded to individual cycling clubs in 14 counties - see full list below - varies significantly from club to club; from €1,267 to €67,477.

The 'Sports Capital and Equipment Programme' is administered by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. It is the government’s primary vehicle for providing support to sports clubs and communities "to develop sustainable sports infrastructure and increase active participation in sport around the country".

Applications under the 2023 round of the programme closed on September 8th last, with 3,210 applications received, and a total of over €350 million sought by all applicants.

“This is the highest number of applications ever received which shows the continued importance and popularity of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme," said Minister Catherine Martin. "I want to thank all of the volunteers throughout the country who submitted applications on behalf of their clubs and communities.”
