The commissaires on the Baby Giro - the week-long Giro d'Italia for U23 riders - have taken the unprecedented step of disqualifying 24 riders from the race, all on the same day. Four team cars have also been removed from the event and the drivers fined.
The riders were removed from the race late last night after they were deemed to have taken a tow up part of the Stelvio climb at the end of yesterday's stage 4.

Video footage, below, emerged of groups of cyclists around team cars, holding onto the vehicles as they neared the top of the climb, where the finish line was located. While two cars are visible in this footage, four were involved.
Other riders, two at a time, were taking tows off some of the race motos. In a release late last night the race organisers confirmed - and published - the names of the riders disqualified. They were removed from the race for being "attached to his own team's or another team's vehicle". The riders were also fined 100 Swiss Francs and docked 25 UCI world ranking points.
Four team drivers were also penalised, with the cars removed from the race "with no possibility of replacement". The drivers were also fined 100 Swiss Francs.
