Irish cycling clubs can now apply for a €5,000 sports grant towards developing their club activities. The process of applying is less arduous than for some other grants available, which is likely to encourage more clubs to give it a go.
The process is open to clubs across the Republic of Ireland and will result in one club in each of the 26 counties being awarded the top grant of €5,000. However, clubs must have special tax status, granted by the Revenue Commissioners, before they can apply.
And that means just 16 cycling clubs in Ireland - listed below - will be eligible to apply. The fact applicant clubs must hold a valid Games and Sports Exemption Number will reduce the number of clubs, across all sports, eligible to apply.
The cycling clubs in the Republic with that status at present include: Killorglin Credit Union Cycling Club, Emyvale Cycling Club, North Pole Cycling Club, Leitrim Cycling Club, Kanturk Cycling Club Company Limited By Guarantee, Killarney Cycling Club, Kingdom Cycling Club, Grand Canal Wheelers Cycling Club, Lakeside Wheelers Cycling Club, Youghal Cycling Club, Cuchulainn Cycling Club Company Limited By Guarantee, Kildare Cycling Club, Revolution Cycling Club Mallow, Arcane Cycling Team, Blarney Cycling Club and Seven Springs Cycling Club.
They can apply for the Texaco Support for Sport grant, with more information available at this link. The process involves three steps, as follows:
- Using a maximum of 250 words, introduce your club and tell us about the special position that it holds within your community and the positive benefits that it brings to members. Also advise how you would spend the €5000 award, if successful.
- You might like to include some photography (maximum four pictures permitted) and a video of up to 30 seconds in length, but no people should be visible in either.
- Finally, your application must be accompanied by your club's constitution document.
The application process has just opened and closes at 6pm on Friday, January 31st. Successful applicants will be notified by email in July 2025.
Their details will be published on this website and also issued to national, regional and local media thereafter. Participating sports clubs who have not been successful will be notified by email too.
