Jason Henry has taken gold in the veterans’ category at the National Cyclocross Championships in Ward River Valley Park this afternoon, going one better than his silver in last year’s race.

Henry overcame the brave challenge of Des Woods (Newry Wheelers) who led the race for a while, while rounding out the podium was Peter McConville, also of Newry Wheelers.

A vets’ national champion on the track having won the sprint title last September, Henry was on great form today, using his strength to pull clear of the field in the early stages of the race.

And once he had a gap established he simply kept his head down and powered his way to the finish where he was delighted with his win.

More later.
