The breakaway at the Tour of Britain a little earlier on today's stage 2, featuring Nicolas Roche, Conor Dunne and Ryan Mullen.
With the Tour of Britain having ended in a bunch sprint yesterday and seen all five Irish riders finish in that peloton, three of the Irish are clear in a break on today’s stage 2.
Nicolas Roche (Team Sky), Conor Dunne (JLT Condor) and Ryan Mullen (Cannondale Drapac) were clear in a large breakaway on 188.2km road from Carlisle to Kendal.
The stage is in the Lake District so there’s plenty of climbing and may just be one for the strongest men in a breakaway to steal a march on others who fancy their chances overall.
Dan Martin (Etixx-QuickStep) and Damien Shaw (An Post-Chainreaction) are also in the race.
At the time of writing – lunchtime on Monday – the breakaway already have 5 minutes on the main bunch.
The 15-man move had built a lead of over five minutes through it was down to 2:30 as the bunch got organised, clearly determined not to let things get out of hand.
We’ll have a full report later.
