Sam Bennett survived a late switch in direction by Garmin-Sharp sprinter Raymond Kreder to take victory in Germany yesterday, check out the video below.
Have a look at the video below; it’s a short race diary clip by German rider Jens Voigt of Trek Factory Racing about his final stage on the Bayern Rundfahrt yesterday.
In it is some good footage of the sprint finish, which was won by Ireland’s Sam Bennett of NetApp-Endura, despite a sharp enough switch in direction by Garmin-Sharp man Raymond Kreder, who was forced to settle for third on the day.
Bennett’s director sportif, Enrico Poitschke said the team was delighted with the win on the 160km stage into Nuremberg and also with Bennett’s victory in the points competition.
“Today our strategy was focused entirely on Sam,” he said.
“The team executed everything very well, especially in the way it neutralised all the attacks during the final laps.
“Sam completed the preliminary work with a perfect sprint. Congratulations to him and huge compliments to the entire team for a very successful tour.
“A stage win, podium finishes in the key stages, top rankings in the general classification, and then also winning the sprint jersey – that’s a pretty good result in our home tour.”
A breakaway of nine men went clear yesterday after around 20km, though it was never let build a lead of more than 2:30.
They were eventually reeled in with three laps of ten of the 5km finishing circuit remaining.
And while there was plenty of aggression by those looking to break free, Bennett’s NetApp-Endura and some of the teams of the other fast men worked to ensure the stage was decided in a bunch sprint.

Bennett on time trial action on stage 4 in Germany on Saturday. Clearly keeping his matches in his pocket towards the best result possible yesterday, he finished fourth from last in the 25.5km test. It was won by Team Sky's Geraint Thomas, who moved into the yellow jersey which he retained on yesterday's final stage.

In the breakaway on stage 2, where he took an intermediate sprint which counted towards his overall win in the points competition when the race concluded yesterday.

Bennett, far left, taking 4th place in the bunch sprint that settled the 202km stage 1, won by Heinrich Haussler of IAM Cycling.
