Video: Italian wins first ever stage of pro career, does epic celebration

As the saying goes, every dog has his day. And Friday’s stage on the Tour of the Basque Country belonged to the unheralded Diego Rosa of Astana.

The 27-year-old Italian hasn’t won too many pro races in his career but when he took a really excellent win today he pulled off a brilliant victory celebration too.

Sailing around the sweeping bend to the finish at speed with his two hands in the air wasn’t enough.

Instead, he slowed right down to the finish line and dismounted before walking across the line with his bike in the air.

His long range solo effort was only the second of his career, having taken the Milano-Torino one-day race on home soil at the tail end of last year.

He had every right to be delighted on Friday, having taken victory by more than three minutes from Sergio Henao, the Team Sky man taking the race lead.

Leader this morning Wilco Kelderman has slipped to 8th, some 1:07 behind Henao, with Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) in 2nd just six seconds down and the in-form French hope Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) in 3rd, just four seconds further adrift.

Have a look at this; nice one!
