Video: Easy way to make rice cakes; great grub for cyclists

Rice cakes are regarded as ideal food for cyclists who want to stay trim but need lots of energy.

 

Nearly every pro team now travels with a team chef and every day on major races the chef makes a batch of rice cakes for the riders.

Hannah Grant of Tinkoff teaches us here how to make the rice cakes that has helped fuel the top riders she works with.

It's probably easiest to cook along with Hannah and adjust your ingredients as you go because Hannah is cooking for eight hungry pro cyclists.

But, for starters, here are the ingredients that she uses:

All measures are approximate, and to feed eight.

  • Short Grain Rice - 1kg
  • Coconut Milk - 2 tins
  • Apple Juice - 1 litre
  • Water - 1 - 2 litres (approx)
  • Golden Raisins, Dried Apple Slices, Brown Sugar and Cinnamon to taste.
  • Caution - Rice cakes have a particularly short shelf life.
