Video: Genius new rear light camera catches errant drivers and all the action on your bike

The days of dangerous drivers getting away with aggressive behaviour towards cyclists, or even hit and runs, may just be at an end thanks to this ingenious invention.

It’s the Fly6 rear light and camera. It’s so ingenious and simple it’s a wonder somebody’s only dreaming it up now.

Put simply, it’s a regular rear light for a bike; same shape, size and weight.

But unlike regular lights, it has a camera inside that can capture what’s going on behind you for up to five hours at a time while you ride.

The images are of such quality that the registration plates of passing vehicles can be captured on film, along with motorists’ behaviour on the road.

So if a driver passes you too closely and/or while speeding, or if they’re behaving in an anti social way, throwing things at you or attempting to “slap” you as they pass, the camera will record what they’ve done and will also capture their reg plates; plenty of information for the Garda or PSNI to be getting on with.

While a very useful tool for tracking down and prosecuting dangerous and obnoxious motorists, it could prove absolutely invaluable in providing evidence when serious accidents or hit and runs occur.

But it’s not all serious stuff. This little device can also record race and sportive action or nice moves off road.

Currently in development in Australia and raising funds through the Kickstarter website, those behind Fly6 claim it’s completely waterproof.

It has also been fitted with a rotating light which circles the tiny lens of the camera when it’s on.

It’s hoped that as the device becomes more popular, motorists will immediately slow down and drive responsibly on recognising the circling light as a warning sign they’re being recorded.

It’s all explained in full in the video above. Below, we’ve included some clips recorded by the device in live situations.
