We've been having some very cold and wet weather of late. It makes cycling a lot more difficult but there are ways to combat the worst of it.
Here’s a nice little video in which former UK professional Matt Stephens talks us through his top 10 tips for riding during the winter or in winter-like conditions we're experiencing right now.
Stephens was one of the best riders in Britain for the best part of 20 years so he’s picked up a few very handy tips along the way.
He always explains himself in a very clear and easy to understand manner and some of the topics here include:
- Turning your bidon into a vessel for your crucial kit.
- Tinfoil around your toes on icy cold days.
- Spare vest to whip on during a coffee stop.
- Standby lights just in case.
- Bring two spare tubes to be sure to be sure.
- Choose winter-specific tyres.
- How much fuel to carry.
- Importance of cleaning your bike right after a ride.
- Don’t everyone stop for mechanicals; keep moving.
- Protect you phones and computer gadgets in plastic.
