The first winter nip has been in the air in recent days so follow these great tips and be ready for when it hits properly.

Here’s a nice little video in which former UK professional Matt Stephens talks us through his top 10 tips for riding during the winter.

Stephens was one of the best riders in Britain for the best part of 20 years so he’s picked up a few very handy tips along the way.

He always explains himself in a very clear and easy to understand manner and some of the topics here include:

  • Turning your bidon into a vessel for your crucial kit.
  • Tinfoil around your toes on icy cold days.
  • Spare vest to whip on during a coffee stop.
  • Standby lights just in case.
  • Bring two spare tubes to be sure to be sure.
  • Choose winter-specific tyres.
  • How much fuel to carry.
  • Importance of cleaning your bike right after a ride.
  • Don’t everyone stop for mechanicals; keep moving.
  • Protect you phones and computer gadgets in plastic.
