Sean Lacey overcomes bitter conditions for fine solo win at Ras Luimni

By Brian Canty

Sean Lacey notched his second win in three weeks as he stormed to an outstanding victory at Rás Luimní on a brutally tough day today, Sunday.

The Aquable rider jumped with his team-mate Olan Barrett from the gun and they pulled out a small gap over a large bunch behind.

But Barry Twohig (Blarney CC), John Mannix (Killarney CC) and Mark Nugent (Waterford Racing Club) came across to form the day’s break.

The riders had to contend with horrendous crosswinds, temperatures that skirted just above freezing and sleet, but Lacey made light of those conditions, jumped away on the last lap, and had well over a minute on Barrett in the end.

Twohig rounded out the podium.

In the A3 race, Cathal Moynihan (Tralee BC) made it two wins in as many weeks.

He was part of a nine-man break that surged clear on the second of three laps and had enough in his legs come the finish to escape with a kilometre to go and stay away to the finish, ahead of Dylan Foley (Nicolas Roche Performance Team).
