Sam Bennett bullies and sprints his way to career best win on Tour of Britain epic stage 5

Sam Bennett of Carrick-on-Suir celebrated his selection for the World Championships with a huge victory on stage 5 of the Tour of Britain today, Thursday.

The 22-year-old An Post-Chainreaction rider made it over two ascents of the steep Caerphilly Mountain with the elite group, and after a 5-kilometre descent to the finish line he would go on to best his companions in the sprint.

He pipped Michal Golas (Omega Pharma Quick Step) and Martin Elmiger (IAM Cycling) in the closing metres.

It was a phenomenal win for Bennett and comes just 24 hours after he was confirmed in the four-man Irish team for the UCI Road World Championships in Florence on Sunday week.
