Paidi O’Brien has too much in closing sprint as he powers to victory in ‘Carrick Cup’

Paidi O'Brien has won his second race in as many weeks when he galloped to victory in today's Carrick Wheelers Cup in Carrick-on-Suir.

The Planet-Tri rider looked in real trouble as he, along with the second group on the road, took the bell for the final lap some 40 seconds behind a front group of 20 riders that broke off the front midway through the second lap.

But the Banteer native never panicked and when the two groups merged in the final third of the race, he did what he is best at, taking the sprint ahead of Simon Ryan (Visit Nenagh) with Michael Lucey (Iverk Produce Carrick Wheelers) in third.

Dylan Foley maintained his outstanding start to the season by winning the A3 event while Barry Meehan (Worldwide Cycles) followed up his win in Caherconlish last Sunday at Rás Luimni with a fabulous sprint victory today.

Full report to follow.
