Wiggins, the national anthem and the most epic put-down ever

Bradley Wiggins' reaction to the national anthem has seen him criticised, but that didn't deter him in Rio, above.

Often regarding as a super intense athlete who must be very difficult to live with, Bradley Wiggins showed his relaxed side with a funny face during the national anthem after his team pursuit gold medal on Friday in Rio.

And while Wiggins has now assumed the status of British icon and can do no wrong in many people's eyes, it wasn't always the case.

Indeed, when he won TT gold at the London Olympic Games in 2012 and didn't sing along to the national anthem on the podium, some people got very upset.

Chief amongst those was tabloid newspaper editor turned broadcaster Piers Morgan who took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

He said: "I was very disappointed Bradley Wiggins didn't sing the anthem either. Show some respect to our Monarch please!"

Wiggins then hit back with one of the greatest replies of all time:

"I was disappointed when you didn't go to jail for insider dealing or phone hacking, but you know, each to his own."

But while Wiggins has been credited with that epic slap down, he never actually Tweeted it. The Tweet was sent out in reply to Morgan but it was from Twitter user Colm Quinn.

He simply included Wiggins' Twitter handle at the time in his Tweet, which created confusion that has endured to this day.

The row that never was has been revisited, with some Briton's clearly not happy (see below) with the escapes of Wiggins on the podium in Rio.

With Colm Quinn joining the party just for posterity sake.
