Nicolas Roche to launch new Irish cycling awards in Dublin

Nicolas Roche is launching what sounds like very exciting new Irish cycling awards.

Fresh from his ride at the Tour de France, Nicolas Roche is in Ireland this weekend on the occasion of his Nicolas Roche Classic sportive.

However, before that action gets underway in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, on Saturday; the Team Sky Irish international has some other business to attend to.

On Friday he launches a new awards scheme for junior cyclists and will also hold a meet and greet in the Phoenix Park, Dublin.

He’ll chat with fans and pose for photos and autograph memorabilia that fans would like to bring along.

However, contrary to earlier information circulated by the organisers, there is no cycle with Roche on Friday in the park.

Chief executive of technology company Magnet.ie, Mark Kellett, has already been backing the Nicolas Roche Performance Team for juniors and is now establishing two new annual awards for young emerging Irish riders. Above, competing in triathlon in the colours of Ireland.

Those who would like to meet Roche should be at the Visitor Centre in the Phoenix Park at 2.30pm this Friday, August 7th.

The Visitor Centre is next to Ashtown Castle in the park.

The event is promoted by the Magnet.ie technology company which sponsors the Nicolas Roche Performance Team for juniors, whose members will also be in attendance on Friday.

It sounds like a great event for kids and adults alike.

The new awards to be launched on the day are also sponsored by Magnet.ie and seek to recognise young Irish talent.

They promise to be a fantastic addition to the existing Cycling Ireland Annual Awards, where the best elite male and female riders along with best event, best club and volunteer of the year are all recognised.

Adam Stenson leads the way in France earlier this year in the colours of the Nicolas Roche Performance Team. Its title sponsor Magnet.ie is now bringing Nicolas Roche to Dublin to launch its new awards for emerging young Irish cyclists.

Magnet.ie’s chief executive, Mark Kellett, and Roche are launching two new awards; the Magnet Junior Female Cyclist of the Year and Magnet Junior Male Cyclist of the Year.

“The awards will recognise Ireland’s top upcoming cyclists who are competing both nationally and internationally,” said Kellett.

The winners will be presented with their awards at the annual Cycling Ireland prize giving night in November.

“Magnet are delighted to be establishing further ties with the cycling community to encourage young Irish talent to emerge on an international stage,” added Kellett.
